You can hire an EFTPOS terminal for a one-off event in New Zealand, whether that is a market stall, a school gala, a fundraiser, or a summer festival. Hire runs from a single day up to several months.
Around 10 working days from the day you request it. The main reason is the Merchant ID. You cannot take payments without one, and the bank issues it, not us, so the setup runs at the bank's pace. If you already have an established terminal and just need an extra unit for a busy stretch, we can often get that to you within a week. On top of that, leave a little room for courier delivery, which is outside our control. If your timeframe is tight, tell us. We work closely with the banks and will do what we can to speed things up, though we cannot make guarantees.
From one day up to several months. Short-term hire suits one-off events, and it is also a good option if you need an extra terminal over a seasonal peak or a busy trading period.
If you hire for a day and then realise you need it longer, that is no problem. Get in touch as soon as you know, and we will let you know how it affects your pricing. It is also worth telling your bank you will be using the merchant number for longer.
Yes. A Merchant ID, sometimes called a merchant number, is a unique identifier that links the transactions on your terminal to your bank account. Eftpos NZ provides the terminal, the network, and the technical support. Your bank issues the Merchant ID. This is why the first step of any hire is getting referred to your bank, and it is the step that sets your timeline. If you want to accept credit cards and contactless payments as well, say so when you set up your Merchant ID, so the bank can enable it and explain the fees.
Pricing depends on how long you hire for. The price covers everything you need to get going, including free courier delivery and return, and full technical support. We can do deals on larger quantities, and we have specific pricing for charities and schools, so get in touch with our Customer Services team to find out what applies to you.
There is nothing to set up. Every terminal is sent ready to take payments the moment you open the box, and a printed quick-start guide comes with it. If you get stuck, our technical support team is available 24/7. The terminal connects wirelessly over the mobile network and is dispatched with a SIM already in it, so make sure you will have mobile coverage or WiFi at your venue. Battery life is roughly a day on a single charge depending on how hard you work it, much like a mobile phone, so keep power handy if you can. Heavy use at a busy stall will drain it faster.
Call us on 0800 EFTPOS (0800 338 767, option 2). Technical support is available 24/7, and all of our user guides are online. The most common day-of issue is coverage, so it pays to confirm you can get a mobile signal or WiFi at the venue before the event, since the terminal needs a connection to process payments.
Yes. Accepting credit cards and contactless cards attracts additional transaction fees, known as merchant service fees. These are charged by your bank, not by Eftpos NZ. If you want to accept them, let the bank know when you set up your Merchant ID and ask what the fees will be, so there are no surprises on your statement.
