How Corporate Cabs Streamlined Their Service With Android EFTPOS

The days of waving down a taxi and scrambling for cash in the backseat are long gone. To compete with disruptive new players, Corporate Cabs partnered with Eftpos NZ to launch their own Android EFTPOS app to create a seamless payment experience for their passengers.

Corporate Cabs have been providing their professional services for 30 years now, and have become one of the leading luxury taxi companies with cabs all around New Zealand. They pride themselves on giving each customer a first-class experience and are committed to going the extra mile to offer comfort and satisfaction on each journey.

But they weren’t willing to stop there. The team at Corporate Cabs were driven to enhance the customer experience even further, by customising a simple and intuitive payment process that would make the journey even smoother.

The Goal

Cameron Alison, CEO of Corporate Cabs, took the helm just before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Navigating this new landscape was challenging, but it opened doors for technological innovation within the company, particularly in enhancing the payment process with the expertise of Eftpos NZ.

The objective was clear: to elevate efficiency and enrich the experience for both passengers and drivers, streamlining the payment process to benefit all involved. We partnered with Corporate Cabs to achieve this vision through an on-device POS app that seamlessly integrates with their pre-journey process via their booking apps and website.

The Solution

Corporate Cabs took developed their own app, and then worked with us to create the first working prototype of their on-device POS solution. We integrated the app into our advanced Android terminal, creating a seamless payment experience that revolutionised how payments are processed in their vehicles. Previously, their system was quite manual, which introduced potential errors and slowed down the payment process for both passengers and drivers. This innovative on-device solution not only accelerates and streamlines transactions but also embodies the Corporate Cabs brand, elevating their professional service to new heights.

Getting the Drivers On Board

After refining the solution through a few adjustments and iterations, we were ready to introduce it to the entire fleet. Speaking with one of the drivers, it's evident that the new terminal is a game-changer. Robin Barrett, a seasoned Corporate Cabs driver with 11 years of experience, says the main difference between the old EFTPOS system and the new one lies in the fee entry process. Previously, drivers had to manually input payment amounts into the EFTPOS terminal, which not only prolonged the process for passengers but also increased the risk of keying errors. Now, with the new solution, drivers simply swipe the screen on the device and select the job details. The correct fare amount automatically appears on the terminal, ready for payment.

From there, passengers just tap their card to pay and are swiftly on their way. Robin appreciates several standout features:

• The speed of the process for both passengers and drivers
• The seamless connection between the taxi unit and the terminal
• The Android terminal's large screen, which makes it easier for passengers to view the transaction
• The impressive battery life, with the terminal lasting between 2-3 days depending on the number of transactions per day.

The Results

Corporate Cabs recognised that not all drivers are quick to embrace new technology, and for some, new technology can be daunting. Fortunately, the adoption by drivers was impressive.
