Update from Retail NZ: Sick Leave and Cost of Payments

Retail NZ_Have your say_Blog

Throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns, the good folks at Retail NZ campaigned tirelessly for the interests of merchants calling on the Government to take a risk-based approach to bans on in-store trading and open up eCommerce to non-essential businesses. The team is back at it again working hard to make credit card acceptance more affordable and lobbying the Government on its proposal to extend sick leave.

Read on to find out how you can make sure your voice is heard!

The cost of payments

A key issue Retail NZ has focussed on in recent years is the cost of Merchant Service Fees. These are the fees merchants pay to accept credit cards and other third-party cards. The Government has announced that it plans to look at regulating Merchant Service Fees and Retail NZ will be making a submission to make sure merchants voices are heard.

Help Retail NZ make the case for change and move towards more affordable merchant service fees! It’s really easy. Simply email a copy of any one of your merchant service fee statements across to Retail NZ. All statements received are treated completely confidentially, and no individual data will be disclosed. Send your statement to advocacy@retail.kiwi.

Extended sick leave

The Government plans to give all workers, including part-timers 10 days sick leave each year. Retail NZ is preparing a submission arguing for a more sensible approach. You can help by taking just a couple of minutes to complete a short survey. You will need to know how many days your employees work each week, and how much sick leave they take. You should be able to get this information from your payroll records.
