Update from Retail NZ: Sick Leave and Cost of Payments

Throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns, the good folks at Retail NZ campaigned tirelessly for the interests of merchants calling on the Government to take a risk-based approach to bans on in-store trading and open up eCommerce to non-essential businesses. The team is back at it again working hard to make credit card acceptance more affordable and lobbying the Government on its proposal to extend sick leave.

Read on to find out how you can make sure your voice is heard!

Eftpos NZ Update from Pete

With the whole country now back at COVID Alert Level 1, it’s pleasing to see a strong rebound in retail spend across New Zealand. Transactions over our network in October were at 98% of the equivalent period last year, despite almost no activity from inbound tourism which would traditionally account for between 5-10% of all transactions we process. This suggests a strong rebound in consumer activity and a big lift in domestic tourism to at least partially make up for the absence of international tourists.

The Omnichannel approach to payments

In my last post The problem with multichannel payments, I explored the challenges presented by offering multiple payment options to your customers. Adding more retailing channels to your payments mix is seen as retailer best practice but can make reporting and vendor management much more complex. To make matters worse, losing visibility of customer behaviour across channels may actually hinder your customer experience instead of improving it.

In this post, I’m going to define what an omnichannel approach looks like and how this approach to payments can solve these challenges.
