Built to last, made with less waste

Written by EFTPOS NZ | Tuesday, August 18, 2026

The Victa range of EFTPOS devices is made by Verifone, whose approach to sustainability runs through the whole lifecycle of a device, from how it's designed and manufactured to what happens when it is recycled.

What makes Victa a more sustainable EFTPOS terminal?

Victa is designed to last, built to be repaired rather than binned, and recycled properly when its working life is finally over.

  • Up to 60% recycled plastics. Victa hardware is made using recycled plastics, which lowers its environmental cost before it reaches you.
  • Packaging without single-use plastic. Victa ships in new packaging that removes single-use plastics and uses recyclable materials instead.
  • Field-replaceable batteries. When a battery wears down, it can be swapped rather than replacing the whole terminal, which extends the working life of the device.
  • Built to stay in-market. A terminal certified to the highest security standards stays in service for years, which means fewer replacements and less waste.
  • Digital receipts. Customers can take a digital receipt instead of paper, which cuts the paper a busy terminal gets through in a week.
  • Designed for disassembly. Victa is built so its parts can be separated and recovered at the end of its life, rather than ending up as waste.

What happens to a Victa terminal at the end of its life?

When a Victa terminal reaches the end of its working life, it doesn't go to landfill. Verifone has a 100% recycling commitment for returned devices, handled through certified partners.

Devices are repaired, refurbished, and reused where they can be, and reclaimed efficiently through reverse logistics where they can't. Anything that can't be reused is handled with secure hardware destruction and full materials recovery, so the valuable materials go back into the supply chain rather than to waste.

How does Verifone reduce its environmental impact?

The device is only part of the picture. Verifone builds sustainability into how it manufactures and sources too. More than 50% of Verifone's manufacturing energy now comes from renewable and clean sources, and it has cut manufacturing greenhouse gas emissions by 21% since 2020. Its manufacturing partners are held to international standards, including ISO 14001 for environmental management, RoHS and REACH for chemical safety, and WEEE requirements for end-of-life handling, alongside the Responsible Business Alliance code for labour and human rights across the supply chain.

Why choose a sustainable EFTPOS terminal for your business?

A terminal built to last is better for your business as well as the environment. You replace it far less often, the battery can be swapped instead of the whole unit, and updates keep it current without a hardware change, meaning less disruption to your business.

More New Zealanders now weigh up the businesses they buy from on their environmental record, and the equipment on your counter is part of that story. Choosing hardware that's made responsibly and recycled properly is a small, practical way to back that up.

That's the thinking behind Victa. Built to last, made with less waste, and supported by a local team for the long run.
